Rules and Regulations for Entering



Sponsored by The Faux Finish Institute,the Fauxcademy of Decorative Finish Award is the top honor award presented to the winner in each of the several categories. There are two levels for entering the Fauxcademy of Decorative Finish Awards.

Level I: Level I awards are for decorative finishers and artists who have been in the decorative finish business for one year or less. Level I entries will compete for the top honor Fauxcademy of Decorative Finish Awards Platinum Certificate presented for each category.

Level II: Level II awards are for decorative finishers and artists who have been in the decorative finish business for one year or more. Level II entries will compete for the top honor Fauxcademy of Decorative Finish Awards Trophy presented for each category.

In each category for Level I and Level II there will be Gold Certificate (2nd Place) and Silver Certificate (3rd Place) award winners.

All non-winning entries will be mailed a Certificate of Achievement as a decorative finishing artist for the categories they have entered.


Entries

You may enter as many categories as you prefer! You may also enter up to 3 projects for each category! If you feel your project meets the criteria for more than one category you may enter that project in more than one category. Entries are only judged against entries in the same category.

Each Entry must be submitted with a complete "Official Fauxcademy of Decorative Finish Awards Contest Entry Form". If entering more than one category you must fill out separate entry forms for each entry.

Each entry will have a processing fee of $25.00 per entry. Each project entry will constitute a $25.00 processing fee. Also, each project entered into more than one category will have a $25.00 processing fee for each category it is entered into.

Each entry must be original work applied by the individuals or their employees.

Each entry must supply a minimum of 10 and maximum of 20 color photos or 35mm color slides per project. Entries submitted without color images will be disqualified.
Note: The Most Original Faux Finish Sample/Creation and Most Creative Marketing, Presentation, or Selling Idea categories listed below are not related to any specific applications in the field or shop and do not have to provide photos. Please view requirements for these two categories below in categories section.

Images may be submitted in Digital Format as follows: 1) Photo dimension should not be smaller than 3 by 4 inches (450 pixels by 600 pixels) nor larger than 5 by 7 inches (750 pixels by 900 pixels) in size. 2) Color mode must be RGB. 3) Image resolution should be no less than 150 PPI (pixels per inch) at these specified dimensions. Digital images can only be submitted in one of these following formats 1) CD-ROM or 2) on a ZIP 100 Disk. Any digital entries that do not meet these formats will be disqualified.

Each entry must provide a written description of the work or project, how long the project took, how the use of color was chosen, any information about unique aspects of the project, and any special techniques that may have been used. Entries submitted without written description will be disqualified.

Close-up photos of each entry will help the judges to see the details and recognize the true craftsmanship of the work.

All photography will become the property of The Fauxcademy of Decorative Finish Awards and The Faux Finish Institute and may be used for promotional and marketing efforts in relation to the Fauxcademy Awards. Please do not send irreplaceable materials or photos. Items will not be returned.

Entries must be submitted as required above for each category and must be in our office at The Faux Finish Institute-13308 Millard Ave.-Omaha, NE 68137 no later than May 24th, 2002. Any entries received in our office after that date would not be allowed to enter!


About the Fauxcademy of Decorative Finish Awards

The Fauxcademy of Decorative Finish Awards were developed by the Faux Finish Institute to help decorative finishers with recognition for their work. The awards will be a vital part of your future marketing efforts and enable you to show your awards to prospective customers so they can acknowledge you as a premium finisher in your area! The presentation of these awards will be in a sealed envelope and presented during the Fauxcademy of Decorative Finish Awards Ceremony Dinner by the Master of Ceremonies. Must be present to receive awards!


Promotional Use of our Site

Each entry will be posted on the Fauxcademy of Decorative Finish Awards website after the ceremony. Special sections will be posted for the Top Honor Fauxcademy of Decorative Finish Award Winners and for each level and each Category! All entries will be able to use this section of our site for your advertising efforts and allow your prospective customers to view your awards and honors! There is nothing else of its kind out there for Faux and Decorative Finishers. We hope our efforts will support professional finishers across the United States to gain credibility in the marketplace and place them above the competition!


Judging

A Panel of Judges will be assembled to vote on the categories. The panel will consist of Interior Designers, Faux and Decorative Finish Professionals, Furniture Professionals, and any other qualified persons we feel that will maintain the highest integrity of our entries. All entries will be judged in a professional manner, without bias towards any person or entry. Entries will be judged on the following criteria, use of color, innovation and creativity, special techniques, degree of difficulty, unique aspects, and overall skill and execution.


Categories

Best Overall Residential Faux Finish Project:
Any faux or decorative finish project either new construction or redo, including homes, cottages, or studios.

Best Overall Commercial Faux Finish Project:
Any faux or decorative finish project either new construction or redo, including schools, hospitals, churches, office buildings, or apartment buildings.

Best Decorative Furniture/Cabinet Finished Piece:
Any faux or decorative finish, stenciling, or artwork applied to furniture or cabinets.

Best Stencil Project:
Any stencil project commercial or residential.

Best Trompe L' oeil/Mural Project:
Any mural or trompe l' oeil rendering commercial or residential.

Best Venetian or European Plaster:
Any Venetian plaster, European plaster, or layered texture commercial or residential.

Best Architectural Feature:
Any faux or decorative finish, artwork, or stencil work applied to any architectural feature like mantels or fire places, niche, columns, detailed architectural build out, door, or anything that may fit into an architectural feature category.

Most Creative Use of Faux, Mural, or Stencil Application:
No limitations, any possible way that a faux or decorative finish, artwork, mural or trompe l' oeil rendering or stencil pattern has been used in a very creative and unusual way.

Most Original Faux Finish Sample/Creation:
Must supply a 30" x 36" polystyrene sample of finish. Polystyrene must be mounted to a piece of matting board of equal size to stabilize and able to stand freely when stood up against a wall or easel.

Entries must supply an essay describing the name of the finish, products used and each process step by step.

Most Creative Marketing, Presentation, or Selling Idea:
Any one item that you have developed for marketing purposes for your company. Examples: brochure, video, CD, business card, ads, magazine ads, presentation folder, van, signage, T-shirt or anything you have developed that helps sell a project, or provide visual aid in selling a customer. Must supply a working sample of your marketing piece or viewing sample.
